| Description | Eligibility Criteria Educational Qualification Essential Qualification: B.E./B.Tech degree in the notified Engineering streams from recognized Universities/Institutions by an Act of Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of parliament or declared to be deemed as Universities/Autonomous Universities under UGC Act 1956, IIT Act 1961, AICTE Act 1987, NITSER Act 2007 and IIIT Act 2024. For Final Year Students: Candidates studying in the final year of Engineering degree course are eligible to apply. They must submit proof of passing Engineering Degree Examination alongwith marksheets of all semesters/years by 01 October 2026 and produce the Engineering Degree Certificate within 12 weeks from the date of commencement of training at PCTA. Important Note: All final year appearing candidates whose final year/final semester exam will be scheduled after 01 October 2026 are not eligible to apply for this course. For Widows of Defence Personnel: Educational qualification for SSCW (Tech) is BE/B.Tech in any engineering stream, and for SSCW (Non-Tech) (Non UPSC) is Graduation in any discipline. Stream Requirement: Only the Engineering streams and their acceptable equivalent streams as strictly notified in the official notification will be accepted. Any variation between the nomenclature of Engineering stream on degree parchment/marksheet and online application will result in cancellation of candidature. Foreign Degrees Not Accepted: Candidates with graduation from foreign countries are not permitted to apply for this course. Nationality A citizen of India, or A subject of Nepal, or A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African countries with the intention of permanently settling in India (certificate of eligibility required except for Gorkha subjects of Nepal) Marital Status Only unmarried female candidates are eligible to apply Widows of Indian Armed Forces Defence Personnel who died in harness are eligible, provided they have not remarried Candidates will neither be allowed to marry during the period of training nor be allowed to live with Parents/Guardians A candidate who marries subsequent to the date of application, though successful at SSB interview and medical examination, will not be inducted for training Selection Process Step 1 - Online Application: Candidates must apply online through www.joinindianarmy.nic.in (Offline application for widows of defence personnel to be sent to Directorate General of Recruiting) Step 2 - Shortlisting: Applications will be shortlisted based on cumulative percentage of marks obtained by candidates upto final semester/year. Cut-off will be applied for each Engineering stream based on vacancy to call up ratio. Step 3 - Allotment of Selection Centre: After shortlisting, centre allotment will be intimated via email. Candidates will select their SSB dates on first come first serve basis. Step 4 - SSB Interview: Two-stage selection procedure conducted at one of the Selection Centres - Prayagraj (UP), Bhopal (MP), Bengaluru (Karnataka) and Jalandhar Cantt (Punjab). Duration is five days. Step 5 - Medical Examination: Candidates who get recommended after Stage-2 of SSB will undergo medical examination. Validity of SSB medical examination is 270 days. Step 6 - Merit List: Merit list will be prepared engineering stream/subject wise based on SSB interview marks. Step 7 - Joining Letter: Candidates in merit list who come within stipulated stream-wise vacancies and are medically fit will be issued joining letters for pre-commissioning training at PCTA, subject to meeting all eligibility criteria. Note: Mere qualifying at SSB interview does not confirm final selection. Selection is based on merit, medical fitness and availability of vacancies.Job application assistance General Information/Instructions Type of Commission: Short Service Commission (SSC) Training Duration: 49 weeks at Officers Training Academy, Gaya, Bihar Rank After Training: Lieutenant Commission Grant: Selected candidates will be granted Short Service Commission on probation in the rank of Lieutenant from the date of commencement of the course Ante Date Seniority: One year ante date seniority from the date of commission will be granted to Engineering Graduates Tenure of Engagement: Officers shall be liable to serve for ten years Option for Release: First option - After 5 years of service (with Army HQ approval based on merit) Second option - After 10 years of service Third option - After 14 years of service Option for Permanent Commission: Officers desirous of seeking Permanent Commission may be considered in the 10th year of service based on eligibility and suitability Service Extension: Ten year service tenure may be extendable by further four years subject to eligibility Arms/Services Allocation: Primary Arms/Services are Corps of Engineers, Corps of Signals and Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers. Candidates may get commissioned in other Arms/Services as well based on organizational requirements Training Cost: Entire cost of training at PCTA is at Government expense Cost Recovery: Candidates withdrawn from training academy for personal reasons will be liable to refund cost of training at ₹16,260 per week (as on 2023) or as notified from time to time Promotion Criteria: Promotion to Captain after 2 years, Major after 6 years, Lieutenant Colonel after 13 years of reckonable commissioned service Liability of Service: Officers may be granted commission in any Arm/Service and will be liable for service in any part of the world Marriage Restriction: Candidates must not marry until they complete full training at Officers Training Academy. Marriage during training will result in discharge and recovery of expenditure Special Provision for Widows: Widows of Indian Armed Forces Defence Personnel who died in harness, including those with children, are eligible provided they have not remarried.
