Core Responsibilities Across most Vertiv roles, an Electrical Engineer is tasked with the design-to-deployment lifecycle of critical infrastructure components. 1. Design & Engineering System Design: Create electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and wiring diagrams for products like Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), DC Power Systems, and Static Transfer Switches (STS). Component Selection: Select and size electrical components (breakers, contactors, transformers, and VFDs) to ensure reliability and cost-effectiveness. Modeling & Simulation: Use tools like Matlab/Simulink or PSCAD to predict system behavior under various load conditions and optimize performance. 2. Project Management & Collaboration Lead Project Engineer: Serve as the technical lead from pre-sales through final commissioning. Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with mechanical engineers to integrate cooling (HVAC) systems and with software teams to develop digital control solutions. Vendor & Contractor Management: Manage external integration companies and work with vendors to specify equipment for large-scale data center builds. 3. Testing & Compliance Standards Adherence: Ensure all designs comply with international standards such as NEC (NFPA 70), UL (508A, 60335), IEC, and CE. Validation: Conduct in-house testing for thermal performance, electromagnetic interference (EMI), and fault withstand capabilities. Site Support: Travel to customer sites (typically 5–10%) for electrical audits, system start-ups, and troubleshooting. |
